The Beginning

This is my first blog post ever so bear with me...

In the beginning (just a few short 8 months ago) there was me, a single woman living in a town house in tallhassee with a roommate, working as a teacher with Leon County Schools, planning on going to graduate school at FSU, and pretty much doing whatever I wanted whenever I damn well pleased.  What changed you might ask...EVERYTHING!!!

So I mentioned I was single and if you've ever been single in Tallahassee I'm sure you can feel my pain.  I went out most weekends with one of my single girlfriends and tried to have fun and meet some new people. I dated here and there but nothing serious ever came of it and most of the time I just felt like I was meeting jerks and crazies and never meeting anyone new (Tallahassee is a small town). I was getting severely discouraged with my luck with men in this town and had pretty much come to the conclusion that I would be single for awhile if not forever and that I would spend my  time focusing on me, going back to school, traveling, and having  fun. No worries right!?!? That attitude didn't last long.

A friend of a friend had met someone on Match.com so I thought...why not? I'm a firm believer in trying new things and I had nothing to lose.  I was thinking that best case scenario I would make some friends and worst case scenario I would have some funny stories to tell.  I had no idea what fate had in store for me. :-)

So with the help of my sister-in-law we made a profile and I joined match.com.  It was interesting to say the least! At first I was a little discouraged. I actually recognized some of the men on there and had even been on dates with a couple of them.  I thought, "Oh Lord! This is just like going out".  I went on a few dates with different guys and it was not good.  Let me just tell you...people are liars!!!  But there was one man whose profile I had read several times and whose pictures I had gone through over and over.  What kept me from "winking" at him? He had/has kids.  Did I really want to get myself into this? His profile was adorable and he bragged and bragged on his kids and they were/are precious.  I mean, who could resist this picture?

So I did it!  I "winked" at him!

He winked back and that led to about 2 weeks of emailing back and forth before he finally asked for my number and asked me out on a date.  We took things slowly (mostly due to the fact that he had the kids every other week).  We only got to see each other a couple times a week when he didn't have the kids.

Justin and I officially met/had our first date on July 28th. A month later and we had only been on 4 dates and hadn't even had our first kiss.  I wanted things to take off but I was afraid they never would.  He was/is very protective of the kids so I was starting to think it would be months if not years before he felt comfortable enough to bring me around them (not that I can blame him). At the very end of August he finally kissed me! Hallelujah!!! But, it was a on a Sunday night so I had to wait a whole entire week before I got to see him again.  I was a mess!   The following week we had 4 dates and things really started to take off.  Just a couple more weeks and Justin told me he was in love with me and I knew that I was too.  I was in seventh heaven!!! There was just one thing, I still hadn't met the kids and I was so nervous about how it would go.

On October 15th I fell in love all over again.  I got to meet McKayla (8) and Seth (5) and we just hit if off.  McKayla wanted to know when Justin would "make me a Wimberly". We knew we had found true love and wanted to get married but had no money for a big wedding and didn't want to wait.  That's when I came up with my genius plan.  We could get married on New Year's Eve.  It's already a party, many places are decorated, and there's a great atmosphere on that night.  So with just a little bit of planning we did it!  We got married under the white lights on Park Avenue on New Year's Eve.  I'm very proud to say I'm officially a Wimberly!

So I think it's pretty clear that my life has completely changed.  Now, I'm a teacher, a graduate student, a wife, a step-mom, a house hunter, a coupon clipper, and so many other things.  How do I feel about all these changes?

I LOVE IT!!!

  1. Wooohooo! Welcome to the wonderful world of blogging! I'm the first [stalker] commenter! I'm loving the blog. I can't wait to keep reading all about you and your new, beautiful family (I'm already subscribed)! Gracelyn's going to flip when she finds out she can check out her "best friend" McKayla on the computer now. McKayla is the coolest ever because "she's really good at talking." Sending lots of love to you and your hunnies! :)

  3. Wow! I am ashamed that I never asked either of you about how you two met. What a wonderful story (I teared up!) of two amazing rock-tastic people. You two are great together and I look forward to many fried fish dinners at Nani and Papa Cs!
