Blogging for A Cause

I am taking part in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation walk in Tallahassee on April 16th.  This is a cause that is near and dear to my heart.  My uncle was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was a child and my best friend's daughter, Isabella was diagnosed last summer when she was only 17 months old.  As you can see from the picture below this disease may affect Isabella's health, but it has not affected her wonderful spirit.

Isabella won my heart on the day she was born, February 24th, 2009.  From the start she was an easy, carefree, fun-loving baby and she has grown into an adventurous and fearless toddler.  She is smart, funny, silly, beautiful, sassy, and so much more.  When she was diagnosed last summer you can imagine the fear and worry her parents and loved ones felt over her life threatening disease.  I was worried that Isabella's personality may change and that she herself would become fearful from the shots and blood sugar checks she had to endure daily. As usual, Isabella took the change in stride and has not let diabetes slow her down one bit. She is the same wild and happy child she's always been and I thank God for that.

Although Isabella is happy and otherwise healthy, this disease is serious and life altering for not only Isabella, but her parents and family as well.  That's why I'm walking for a cure and asking all of my friends and family to support me, Isabella, and all those affected by diabetes.  By raising money and awareness we can make a difference and work towards a cure.

As many of you know, a few years ago I did a fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society when one of my students was diagnosed with leukemia.  In the four months it took me to train for a half-marathon I was able to raise $6,000 for that worthy cause.  I know that I can count on my friends and family again to help me meet my goal of raising $500 in the next three weeks to help find a cure for diabetes.

Please follow the link below and make a donation.  Anything will help!!!

If that doesn't work...
